Alexander named Director for LEPP

ITHACA, N.Y. – Professor Jim Alexander, B.A., 1976, Carleton College. M.S., 1979, University of Chicago. PhD., 1984, University of Chicago, has been named the Director of Cornell University's Laboratory for Elementary-Particle Physics (LEPP), one of the world's leading centers for elementary-particle research. Jim's many years of experience in the Lab , combined with his superb leadership ability, will serve LEPP well as it moves into this next era of challenging and exciting research opportunities. Smoothing the transition, Professor David Cassel will continue to serve in his current role as Associate Director for LEPP.
Professor Alexander is taking over from Professor Emeritus Maury
Tigner. Maury will become the Chair of the new Cornell Laboratory
for Accelerator-based Sciences and Education (CLASSE--pronounced
"class"), which will contain the current departments and activities
of LEPP and the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS). In addition to chairing CLASSE, Maury will oversee
resources and distribution, and will work with members of the Lab to
realize projects.
We are very fortunate to have the services of such excellent leaders
in these various positions.
