Weill Cornell Medical College
(REGISTRATION REQUIRED!)

Join us at Weill Cornell Medical College on October 17th for the Cornell Science Sampler Series (CSSS) workshop (view flyer - PDF). CSSS is a collaboration between several of the outreach offices of Cornell's research centers and departments. It provides teacher professional development in the areas of science, engineering, technology and math.

The workshop on October 17th will be geared towards elementary and middle school science teachers. LEPP/CLASSE will be hosting a workshop on exploring light:

July 6th-July 8th, 2009
Hosted by Leanne Avery (SUNY Oneonta) & Julia Thom (Cornell University)

During this workshop, teachers engaged in hands-on activities that focused on science and engineering in the context of rural life. They explored how to validate students local rural knowledge and how to use the activities presented to encourage students to learn about the nature of science - all while meeting NYS Science, Technology and Engineering standards!

Cornell Science Sampler Series
Weill Medical College, Manhattan NY

Throughout the year, the Laboratory for Elementary-Particle Physics co-hosts a series of hands-on workshops for science teachers. Staff, faculty and graduate students from various science departments across campus collaborate to bring professional development workshops to elementary-high school teachers as part of this on-going series at Weill Medical College. Below is a list of the STEM Outreach groups that have participated in the Cornell Science Sampler Series since its inception in 2007.

Paleontological Research Institute - Museum of the Earth

Joint Topical Symposium on Accelerator-based Sciences - 2008 Workshop

The New York State Sections of the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers along with Cornell University provided members of the physics community as well as undergraduate students and secondary science teacher the opprotunity to attend a series of presentations and workshops on the topic of accelerator-based sciences. Please visit the APS/AAPT Joint Symposium web page for additional details.

Preparing Future Physics Teachers - 2006 Workshop, Cornell University

Cornell University hosted a workshop during the summer in order to examine the nation-wide shortage of qualified physics teacher and the role higher learning institutions could play in alleviating this shortage. LEPP invited individuals who are actively involved in this effort to present at the workshop and share their knowledge and experience with an audience of university and college physics department representatives.
